UAE shifts schools and universities to remote learning amid Iran’s missile, drone attacks

ABU DHABI – The UAE Ministry of Education has announced a nationwide shift to remote learning for schools and higher education institutions amid heightened regional tensions following renewed Iranian cruise missile activity in the region.
The decision comes after a period of increased security alerts, with authorities prioritising safety across all education sectors. The temporary measure reflects precautionary steps taken as national systems remain on alert in response to evolving developments.
Officials said the arrangement will remain in place for a limited period while the situation is closely monitored.
Remote learning
The Ministry confirmed that all nurseries, public and private schools, as well as teaching and administrative staff, will transition to remote learning from Tuesday, 5th May until Friday, 8th May 2026. The directive applies nationwide and is intended to ensure continuity of education while maintaining safety standards.

The authorities stated that the arrangement aligns with efforts to safeguard students and education sector personnel during a period of regional instability. The situation is scheduled for reassessment on 8th May, with the possibility of extension depending on developments.
Higher education
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research also confirmed a parallel transition to remote learning across all higher education institutions in the country for the same period. The measure is part of regulatory actions designed to ensure flexibility and uninterrupted academic operations. However, programmes requiring clinical training, laboratory work, field-based application or in-person examinations will continue face-to-face as scheduled.
Institutions have been instructed to manage academic continuity while adhering to the exemptions outlined by the ministry.
